Leadership!

July 7, 2010 by

Leadership is a topic that is not discussed nearly enough. We all know and recognize that we need leadership, particularly in the church world. Many of us also desire to have a place of leadership – it is almost a rite of passage in the church to obtain leadership over some facet of the ministry. There are few leaders that provide specific training for leadership. I’m not referring to the nine to fifteen month classes that many ministries provide for new members – I’m referring to an actual leadership training program to learn the “how-to’s” to lead God’s people!

Fortunately, like with everything else that comes up in our lives we can look to scripture to find answers. In the book of 2 Samuel, the 23rd chapter we read these words spoken by David:

3 The God of Israel spoke.
The Rock of Israel said to me:
‘The one who rules righteously,
who rules in the fear of God,
4 is like the light of morning at sunrise,
like a morning without clouds,
like the gleaming of the sun
on new grass after rain.’

5 “Is it not my family God has chosen?
Yes, he has made an everlasting covenant with me.
His agreement is arranged and guaranteed in every detail.
He will ensure my safety and success.
6 But the godless are like thorns to be thrown away,
for they tear the hand that touches them.
7 One must use iron tools to chop them down;
they will be totally consumed by fire.”
(NIV)

When we begin to think about leadership, we have to first of all hear the words of the Leader of Leader, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords. When He speaks, He issues the decree to a leader, who recognizes that they must first and foremost “fear God.”

10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. Proverbs 9:10 (KJV)

Unless we have the proper perspective of who is really the leader, we will always be subject to making decisions based upon our human intellect and judgement. When we fully embrace the Lordship if our Father, and the rudiments of His Word – we can then begin training in Leadership 101.

Although it will not be a one-step process to rule like “the light of the morning at sunrise” or like ” a morning without clouds” – we have the inertia to move forward.

WE are faltering around in this generation as a leaf in the wind because too few are willing to fall upon their knees and answer the call of leadership.

This week we would like to begin a conversation on this very important topic, if you have questions, or if you would like to issue comments, please respond to the daily posts and we will highlight them in this series.

God Bless You,
Thank you for tuning back in after my vacation break,
Maria
