Occupy!

On The 700 Club last night,Pat Robertson and others were on their knees praying for this nation on the anniversary of the first English settlers who came to this land in 1607 for religious freedom. Those settlers dedicated this land to Christ then, and now, over 400 years later, Pat Robertson was continuing this effort. Does that seem like a wasted effort to you – or do you believe that we still have the power and the authority to “decree a thing” in Jesus name?

In reading the Old Testament this year, I’ve asked God to once again imprint on my mind and spirit His plan for mankind. In a world of moral relativism such as we live in, I want to be able to “give a reason for the hope that lies within me” with both clarity and accuracy. I love the story of the children of Israel coming out of the wilderness into the promise land – what victory! If you’re not careful, you can slide into the “argument of “social justice” and question why the Israelites had a right to the lands on the other side of the Jordan and why God told them specifically to drive out the inhabitants of those lands:

51Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye are passed over Jordan into the land of Canaan;

52Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places:

53And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it…

55But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

56Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.Numbers 33:51-55 (selected – KJV)

God didn’t just drive out the inhabitants of the land because He preferred one people over another, it is because the people that He was driving out were wicked and sinful and full of perversion! God never created man to wallow in debase and vile habits, God created man to be reflections of His glory!

Jesus gave a parable to illustrate the plan He has for His church:

And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

Luke 14:23 (KJV)

Jesus spoke this command to the church:

18And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

We have been given a charge – have you prayed for and claimed the land you occupy?
