Don’t Spare Anything!
If you need a reason to read the Old Testament, I want to give you one – it is so practical. God had not yet revealed many things to mankind, there weren’t computers or cell phones or even successful heart surgeries or organ transplants – but God taught His people how to live in health and wholeness, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. And He did it by simple commandments that had practical application and fantastic results.
In reading the Old Testament, we see story after story that proves that when the Isralites refused to walk in the ways of God, they suffered disasterous results. All of us are familiar with Moses striking the rock in anger and missing the promised land. Whether it was suffering personally like Moses, or as a nation, such as was the case when David sinned against God – there were consequences for disobeying God’s commandments and directives.
In the book of Numbers, as the children of Israel were about to go into the Promise Land, God told them:
55But if you will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then those you let remain of them shall be as pricks in your eyes and as thorns in your sides, and they shall vex you in the land in which you dwell.
56And as I thought to do to them, so will I do to you.
God knew that leaving any semblance of the inhabitants of the land would bring them consistent trouble. It’s still like that today. When we fail to drive out all the vestiges of sin in our lives, when we flirt with the enemy and lurk on the highway of one foot in the church, and the other foot in the world – we too will find that the enemy will be like a “prick in our eyes, and a thorn in our sides.” He has got to go! Those things that continue to bring us to compromise – to wavering and being double-minded, to being unsure of God’s direction for our life – they have GOT TO GO!
God wants to give us “milk and honey” time – but we’ll nevr experience it unless we “turn from” and “drive-out” – any and all places of darkness and temptation and really “walk in to our promise land, on dry ground.” The “dry ground” represents the miracle God will give us through any troubled water when we fully follow Him.
There is nothing too hard for God – nothing outside of us, nothing inside of us – all He wants is for us to give to Him, and leave it there.
A simpe message – a powerful promise – a daily fight!
God Bless You,
Maria
