Is Your Soul for Sale?

We are all familiar with the passage of scripture in Matthew 16:25 -

tomorrow, when the war began the movie

“For what to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”

In our Christian experience, we don’t backslide or fall into moral failure in a fleeting moment – rather, day by day, a little at a time, our focus is taken off living a consecrated life, and slowly and steadily engages more in worldly pursuits. It may result in one day falling into sin, but the failure was not just one day’s fall – it was the result of a progressive decline in our relationship with God.

e So when I read the next verse:

“Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? (vs 26)

Reading this had a resounding tone to it – for I think the same is true in this passage. We make little concessions and in essence gradually give pieces of our soul away. Whether it is in the name of liberty, or “that” is “old school,” or “I’m trying to win my family so I’ll…”; little by little we exchange a holy and consecrated life so we won’t be considered a radical, or because we love our families so much we want them to accept us, or we love our children so much we feel the need to prove to them that we do.

We’ve all been there (and if you haven’t – keep living) – torn between that proverbial rock and a hard place – trying to determine just how much we can give away of our convictions to try to settle the question at hand.

It is essential in this hour that we choose wisely. There is a strong spirit of deception in the world that has lulled the bride to sleep – thinking we have plenty of time to get oil for our lamps – instead of seeing the signs of the times that indicate that we need all the oil we can get and more! If revival is going to come to the world, it must begin in the church. So many studies indicate that the reason that only four percent of teens in this generation call themselves Christians is because they see so little conviction among their parents. When we fail to even reproduce the fruit in our own households, we have cause “to examine ourselves to see whether we are in the faith!”

The most magnificent thing about God, something that I continue to marvel at, is His compassion towards us – if we will turn away from our sins, He will forgive, and with that forgiveness, restore. Most of us need our soul restored, because we’ve sacrificed far too much of it at the altar of trying to be relevant!

Selah,
Maria
