If God be God!

News reports don’t give us much comfort that the economic climate in this country is getting any better. There are still twelve out of very one hundred people out of work, and forecasts indicate that more major businesses are going to cut back or even close their doors. If you find yourself in the position of being out of work, listening to the news doesn’t provide much hope.

Sometimes my natural, rational mind puts me in a closet and I hear loud and clear, “there’s nothing that can be done about this situation.” And yet there is a word from the Lord, we serve a God who specializes in doing the impossible. I have never seen it to fail, when I get too busy to make time for daily reading of the Bible, I can get away with it for a day or two, maybe even a week, but it soon becomes evident that faith dwindles in my life, and unbelief creeps in, and if I don’t pay attention, that trickster will cause me to be double-minded, doubting God, and being unable to make decisions.

We must never forget that satan is a liar – he will always tell us God can’t – or won’t move in our behalf. Whether he comes to us with the claim that we’re not “worthy”, or whether he just points out to us, how “impossible” it will be for what we are believing for to happen; his ultimate goal is to cause us to doubt God and remain in a state of confusion!

The prophet Elijah was faced with a people who knew God, but decided that they were not going to take any chances, they were going to serve the gods of Baal also:

21And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

22Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

23Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:

24And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken 1 Kings 18:21-24 (KJV)

The battle was on – most of you know the story, but it’s worth reading again – have we the faith of Elijah, who not only put God to the test, but had the kind of faith that he raised the stakes so high, that it seemed an impossible task.

Elijah was not double-minded – he was sure – that his God would deliver by fire. How about you? Have you started any fires lately?

He IS Greater!
