A Quiet “Yes!”
November 17, 2009
I used to hear the seasoned saints say in church, “all He wants is “yes.” I didn’t know for a long time what that meant – even so I adopted a phrase that I would include in my prayers – “Yes to Your Word, Yes to Your Will, Yes to Your Way!” It’s sounds so easy – what Christian wouldn’t walk like that? It wasn’t until I began to experience unusual tests and temptations (uncommon for me) that I understood that “yes” is not always something that I wanted to give – sometimes even an obedient child like I had always strove to be even BC (before Christ) – wanted to have her own way – and was willing to go to bat with God to get it! read more...

The Freedom of a Servant!
November 15, 2009
As I write this post I am in Atlanta, Georgia. I have enjoyed stimulating conversation over good meals – I also rode in a horse-driven carriage, something that I had never done before. But none of those things held a candle to the experience of going to the King Center. As I walked through the Center, went into Ebeneezer Baptist Church, walked to the birthplace of this man who held both my attention and my admiration for nearly a decade – memories came back, feelings began to stir inside of me, old dreams resurfaced – I am a product of the sixties – with all of its’ revolutionary changes, none made more impact on me than the civil rights movement – I lived and breathed a quest to see my people free! read more...

There Is An Answer!
November 12, 2009
This week we’ve been talking about the world that our children and youth have to face. If you make a steady diet of the six o’clock news you can feel as if things are pretty hopeless – where do you start? How can you reach so many young people that appear to have given up hope on a normal life and have made the streets and gang land violence their way of life? read more...
Friendly Fire!
November 11, 2009
At my Dad’s funeral, we were privileged to have the military at the grave site presenting TAPS. It was perhaps one of the most moving experiences I have had. The rendition of TAPS by the bugle, along with the solemn presentation of the American Flag to my oldest son Timothy (who is also a veteran) left a memory I will never forget. It also sparked to my remembrance the honor that it was for my Dad, as an African American to be able to serve in the United States Military during World War II as a general mechanic. Certainly the favor of God was upon his life, even then. read more...

God Can You Help Our Children, In Spite of Us?
November 9, 2009
Recent events in our family have brought before me the reality that I made some mistakes that have had long-standing consequences. They were not intentional, nor malicious – there were things I didn’t know, and what I didn’t know I couldn’t teach. I also have become too aware of how many years I spent trying to make up for those mistakes – in subtle, but deliberate ways I tried to compensate for the things I did wrong in my children’s lives without realizing that I was only perpetuating the errors. read more...
How Shall They Hear?
November 8, 2009
As I write this post many of you are getting ready to go to church. You are assembling all the essential things you need, including your Bible, (howbeit some are getting used to scriptures being viewed on screen and don’t take that as an essential) and you are going to Hear the Word for today! You have found what you believe is truth, but how did you come to this realization? The old church used to sing of “remembering it well – it was on a Sunday, mine was on a Monday, etc” – they remembered the day, they remembered the time – it was sealed in them “the day they found the Lord!’ Most of those remember also the mourners bench where they were seated until “that day they found the Lord!” read more...
