Always Keeping the Promise Before You!

Yesterday I went to two life-changing events. One was a memorial for a 91 year old Mother who loved God and loved her family. The testament of her living out her faith came through with such depth, but perhaps none other to me than to hear her granddaughter speak of her being her best friend, her confidante, her mentor, her prayer partner. It exemplified to me what I hope to leave as a legacy – that I would influence my children’s children for the cause of Christ!

I then went to a retirement celebration which was held in a most unusual place – not a fancy hotel or restaurant, but at Pacific Garden Mission! My brother and sister-in-law have for years made a weekly trek to Pacific Garden Mission to teach computer classes to the homeless. Their desire was to give as a gift to their friends, family, and co-workers the best part of who they are by bringing us all to the mission to see the work being done there. And for me it was life altering. I have been to the mission before with them, but this time I saw a new vision – a new purpose – I received the seeds of something new!

One of the things that I discovered as I have walked this journey these past forty years is that you can’t walk it alone. There are times when you get weary and worn; there are times when your concentration and focus may be on a single person – but the call of God that may begin as a whisper will more than likely send you on a reproductive mission that will affect nations! I am reminded of the following scripture:

10For God is not unrighteous to forget or overlook your labor and the love which you have shown for His name’s sake in ministering to the needs of the saints (His own consecrated people), as you still do.

11But we do [strongly and earnestly] desire for each of you to show the same diligence and sincerity [all the way through] in realizing and enjoying the full assurance and development of [your] hope until the end,

12In order that you may not grow disinterested and become [spiritual] sluggards, but imitators, behaving as do those who through faith (by their leaning of the entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness and by practice of patient endurance and waiting are [now] inheriting the promises. Hebrews 6:10-12 (AMP)

We live as we give! That which we receive must be poured out; the hope that we have must be shared – the love that we have been given – must be extended to others. I feel a stirring – I don’t know where it’s going – but there is a wind blowing from the east that I believe is urging the saints of God to refuel – it’s harvest time!

God Bless You This Lord’s Day!
Maria
