Take Heart!

September 30, 2009

Have you ever heard people give the expression, “take heart?” What does that really mean? Interestingly enough there are websites that deal with colloquial expressions like this and explain them. For example, when I looked up “take heart” several websites immediately came up which dealt with expressions like this: read more...

Not the Only Thing We Can Do, The Only Thing TO Do!

September 29, 2009

My heart is both grieved and stirred for yet another senseless killing and life lost in our city. Sixteen year old Derrion Albert, an honor student at Fenger High School was beat in broad daylight by what appears to be another incidence of gang violence. And yet the death of Derrion isn’t the only death that comes from this kind of incident – how many of those students at Fenger – and in high schools across the city -will die to their hopes and dreams because of the fear of this kind of thing happening to them? How many will decide that they might as well join the crowd? How many will stop pushing, stop pressing, stop trying to beat the many odds against them? read more...

A Promise and an Oath!

September 28, 2009

I am currently reading a book that is helping me frame a lot of things in my mind. In one of the chapters it talks about desire – and when I looked up the word desire in the Bible – so many references came up. Desire is talked about alot and refers to different things. We all have desires, and many of us because of our religious training choose to ignore our desires, feeling that all desire is a bad thing and should be crucified with the rest of our flesh. read more...

The Unsung Heroes!

September 27, 2009

Another Lord’s Day! Another opportunity to take time away from the busy week and give honor to the God of our salvation, rejoicing in how very much He loved us to give us in the fullness of time His Son and then with His departure to heaven, He gave us the Holy Spirit as our comforter and guide. read more...

Remember Not the Former – Perceive the New!

September 26, 2009

I went and saw a movie tonight which put a whole lot on my mind. Really many of the things in the movie were things that were already on my mind, so it was somewhat providential that I saw how they played out on the big screen. I’m neither going to plug the movie or reveal the plot, I just want to say that it caused me to reflect on “remembering.” read more...

This Thing You See Now – You Will See No More – Forever!

September 25, 2009

Another one of my favorite stories in Exodus is the wonderful way that God brought victory for the Israelites as they crossed the Red Sea. After Pharsoh’s refusal to let God’s people go, and suffering many plagues from God for this, the final plague which resulted in the first born in every Egyptian home suffering death, including the firstborn of all the animals persuaded Pharaoh to finally let God’s people go! But no sooner than they left and Pharaoh discovered that they were not coming back – he assembled his army and went fast on their trail. The Israelites saw the impending army and their reaction was to panic and Moses told them: read more...

A Pillar of Cloud by Day; Fire by Night!

September 24, 2009

One of the best adventures of all time was the Exodus of the Israelites out of Egypt into the Promised Land. Steven Spielberg and all the other greats could not come up with the drama, the mystery, the surprise, the anticipation, the excitement, and all the other elements that make a good story – great! Moses was a perfect leading man – a leader of leaders and yet one who had felt the pain of being a fallen and rejected man – every man’s man – every woman’s hero! And the plots and sub-plots all seem designed to keep you on the edge of your seats! read more...

Sex Begins in the Morning!

September 23, 2009

Today I’m going to tackle a topic I generally don’t address, but every day this week I have heard someone talking about marriage. When I listened to Dr. Dobson this evening I heard about a book that had a familiar ring – Sex in the Kitchen, which deals with the importance of a man sharing in housework to bring the kind of response from his wife that he is looking for. It brought back to my mind something my former pastor used to say, “Sex Begins in the Morning!” Let me explain. read more...

It’s High Time!

September 21, 2009

I love it when after a long day I can get to sleep and sleep all night – “casting all my cares on Him, for He cares for me.” The last couple of nights have not been like that – I have been feeling something that has interrupted my sleep – and tonight I came to an understanding of what it is. read more...
