Take Your Marriage to God!

August 17, 2009 by

Few would deny that the institution of marriage is under attack in the United States of America. We hear celebrities make claims that they refuse to marry and choose to cohabitate because getting a piece of paper does not guarantee that the marriage would last. Statistics of course bear this out with nearly 1 in 2 marriages ending in divorce, with comparable stats for church atenders.

In the beginning, it was not so:

God said, “It’s not good for the Man to be alone; I’ll make him a helper, a companion.” …

21-22 God put the Man into a deep sleep. As he slept he removed one of his ribs and replaced it with flesh. God then used the rib that he had taken from the Man to make Woman and presented her to the Man.

23-25 The Man said,
“Finally! Bone of my bone,
flesh of my flesh!
Name her Woman
for she was made from Man.”
Therefore a man leaves his father and mother and embraces his wife. They become one flesh.
Genesis 2:19-20 (MSG)

If you’ve been a Christian for any length of time, you know by now that anything that God ordains, sanctions, or blesses is going to face opposition. If your marriage is facing opposition – don’t be suprised – you are not alone. If you know someone who is facing marital discord – encourage them – they are not alone! That which God has joined together – satan will surely try to separate. To have a good marriage and to keep a good marriage – it is necessary to fight – fight the good fight of faith!

The admonition to fight is not just in the Old Testament – here is what Jesus had to say about marriage:

He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.
Matthew 19:8

The questions will arise – should I have married this person? is my marriage worth fighting for? how can I continue to live like this? won’t God understand, He doesn’t want me to be miserable for the rest of my life does He?

The answer resounds back – in the beginning it was not so – in the beginning it was leave and cleave!

HeartLife Ministries is so concerned about fighting for marriages that every year we sponsor a marriage retreat where workshops, speakers, and focused activities try to persuade good marriages to get better and marriages that under attack to resist the attack and fight for the love they once knew.

Can we pray for the institution of marriage? Can we pray for your marraige? Can we pray that God will put a call in the hearts of males and females everywhere to live as God ordained – not making up their own rules – but following the plan of God – to leave their father and mother and to cleave to one another – for a lifetime! Can we pray that the devils that have vowed to destroy marriage in this generation will find that once again they are defeated by a believing people who know God and know His Word – and recognize that “greater is He that is in them, than He that is in the world!”

Take Your Marriage!= to God!

God Bless You,
Maria

Thanks Maria for this great word at this time. I believe that we can take back what the enemy wants to steal from us but we must stand up and fight in faith, our marriages, families and children are worth it. “The enemy is defeated, death couldn’t hold you down”, even the death of marriage.

Thank you for the encouraging words! If we pray hard and live according to God’s plan we can never fail. Although once in a while most of us need a reminder and so it is also a great idea to attend marriage workshops and attend church regularly as well.
