Take the City!

August 15, 2009 by

It was in the heat of a powerful revival, I heard the words repeated over and over, “Take the City”, “Take the City!” It was another revival – I heard the words, said over and over,
“God said I have much people in this city.” How I remember the revivals of my Christian experience – those times when we prepared to come before God and KNEW that they we were going to hear a Word from God that would build us up! Part of my spiritual preparation was under a Word preacher who came through as a Baptist preacher. That Baptist part of him never left – and he would always instruct us to begin the service with the “occasion.” I don’t think that is a bad idea, we need to know why we are doing what we are doing – everything has a name – it doesn’t hurt to call it what it is!

I’m impressed that we should take some time to dedicate specific prayers for specific things this next week. I know that in scripture there are certain scriptures that apply to certain people or dispensations. Such is the case in Psalm 2 – which is a prophetic utterance to the Son of God by the Father Himself. Because I believe all the promises of God are yea and amen to the glory of God, and because I know I am part of the beloved – adopted into the family of God by the blood of Jesus – I believe those promises and prophetic utterances also belong to me – if I can believe.

Psalm 2: 7 & 9 reads in the KJV:

I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession
.

in the NIV v8 reads:

Ask of me,

and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.

So when I hear Israel Houghton singing about, “I Speak to Nations” – I believe that this is exactly what God wants me to do – and not just me, you too!

Let us pray as Romans 13:1-3 (MSG) reads:

1-3Be a good citizen. All governments are under God. Insofar as there is peace and order, it’s God’s order. So live responsibly as a citizen. If you’re irresponsible to the state, then you’re irresponsible with God, and God will hold you responsible. Duly constituted authorities are only a threat if you’re trying to get by with something. Decent citizens should have nothing to fear

Can we pray to accept even what sometimes appears to be ungodly leadership and believe that God has ordained them for purpose? Can we pray that God will get the glory even when it appears that the “heathens are raging.” Can we pray that the God who neither slumbers nor sleeps will keep the watch over our city? Can we pray that God will raise us godly leadership for we know that “when the righteous rule, the people rejoice.”
Can we pray that even the ungodly forces that are joining together in coalitions will be rendered ineffective and turn and rend upon themselves and not be successful in any wicked schemes and plots? Can we pray that God will help us pray? More on this tomorrow.

God Bless You,
Maria
