Lord, Give Me What I Need!

July 29, 2009 by

Moses said to the LORD, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, ‘I know you by name and you have found favor with me.’ If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.”
The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”

And the LORD said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.”

Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.” Exodus 33:12-18NIV

Most blood bought believers don’t resist the assignment God gives them. When God tells us to do something we usually don’t tell Him flat out that we won’t do it. Particularly if that assignment has kept coming back repeatedly or even once dramatically as it did for Moses at the burning bush!

What usually happens is we get into our assignment, we fight Pharoh, we go through various tests and trials with the “Egyptians” in our life – sometimes we even get across our “Red Sea” and figure we have it made! We now have TESTimony that God not only told us what to do, but by His mighty outstretched hand He brought us through! It would seem that it would be a piece of cake after that, but that’s because with all that has brought us to that point, we didn’t know what the wilderness would be like! It is in the wilderness that we wonder if we have really heard from God!

Moses, as a prototype of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ showed us what to do next in this passage of scripture. We too can take his example to help us fulfill our assignments.

First of all, Moses repeated the assignment in vs 12 – even though God knows our thoughts afar off, it helps us to be specific about what we want from God.
Secondly Moses confirmed His relationship with God – again, when we come before our Father, we come as His children, redeemed by the blood of the lamb, sons and daughters of God.
Third, Moses stood in humility before God as a child and asked for God to show Him His ways – even with all that Moses had experienced prior to the wilderness, He didn’t walk as one who knew everything, rather He submitted to being taught the ways of God!
Fourth, Moses reminded God that this people He had been called to lead belonged to God and how would anyone know that he had really received favor, and this people were really a called-out people, unless God Himself went with them?
Finally, Moses said to God – o.k. if you are going – then show me your glory!

We may wonder at the audacity of Moses to say in essence, “o.k. if you’re going to do this – then put up, show me your glory!” Yet hasn’t God said to us,
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.Hebrews 4:15 KJV

Too much to finish today – tune in tomorrow for the conclusion of “Lord, Give Me What I Need!”

God Bless You,
Maria
