I’m Not Going to Tell You This Fight is Easy!
We’re coming to the end of our week where we have been sharing with you concerning “fighting the good fight of faith.” I don’t want anyone to think that this “fight” is going to be easy. It’s not easy, even the Apostle Paul, who was taken up into the third heaven – had some problems fighting sometime. The following passage is an example:
‘When we arrived in Macedonia province, we couldn’t settle down. The fights in the church and the fears in our hearts kept us on pins and needles. We couldn’t relax because we didn’t know how it would turn out. Then the God who lifts up the downcast lifted our heads and our hearts with the arrival of Titus. We were glad just to see him, but the true reassurance came in what he told us about you: how much you cared, how much you grieved, how concerned you were for me. I went from worry to tranquility in no time! “ 2 Corinthians 7: 5-7 (MSG)
You can see his struggle – but you can also see that struggle lifted, not because the problem ceased (scripture does not record everything suddenly got alright), but what took him from worry to tranquility was the entrance of Titus, sent by God (for such a time), who came with such a good report of how much love and concern the saints had for Paul. This report lifted Paul’s spirits to such an extent that it was if all his problems had been solved!
Hasn’t that ever happened to you. I don’t know if you out there had the privilege of going to a church where there was testimony service, but I did! Sometimes I would go to church dragging so many problems with me that it felt as if I was carrying three dead men! Not even the praise service could lift me up – and then someone would get up and give a testimony of how God had moved for them that day – and BAM – just like that – night would turn to day; the sun would begin shining again (even if it was 7:30 at night); music would be heard – without an instrument being played; God had showed up once more and again. He had sent someone with a word of His love- of His faithfulness – of His concern for His people; they told how He had sent the rent; He had given a good report through the doctor; He had lifted someone’s burden – someone was praising Him because He had brought them out of darkness into the marvelous light!
No— the fight is not easy – but 1 Peter 5 :7 says we should:
“Cast(ing) all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
And the marvelous part about all this is , “He’s always there! We don’t have to look far to cast our care on Him – He shows up through people, places and events, trying in a hundred ways to get our attention!
Yes my sister and my brother – “fighting the good fight of faith” – is a FIGHT! It is not a once done – done for all – kind of thing – it takes work, it takes all the faith we have and all we can borrow – but I heard Km Stratton sing one day:
“Jehovah Jireh, My Provider, Jehovah Rapha- you’re my healer, for by your stripes I have been set free; Jehovah Shammah, you are with me, you supply all of my needs, You are more than enough, more than enough, more than enough – for me!
God Bless You,
Maria
