He’s Still There!

One of my favorite songs that Larnelle Harris sings is one that comes back to haunt me from time to time, because it speaks directly to my heart. The song is entitled, “I Miss My Time With You,” – and it’s a love letter from the Father directly to His very busy children. I’m sorry I don’t have capability to do a live feed yet, but the words literally sing off the page:

“there he was just waiting,
in our old familiar place
an empty spot beside him,
where once i used to wait
to be filled with strength and wisdom
for the battles of the day
i would have passed him by again
if i didn’t hear him say

(chorus)

i miss my time with you
those moments together
i need to be with you each day
and it hurt’s me when you say
you’re too busy
busy trying to serve me
but how can you serve me
when your spirit’s empty
there’s a longing in my heart
wanting more than just a part of you
it’s true
i miss my time with you

what do i have to offer
how can i truly care
my efforts have no meaning
when your presence isn’t there
but you will provide the power
if i take time to pray
i’ll stay right here beside him
and you will never have to say

Chorus

These words penetrate me every time they come to my spirit, for I know it is because it is a gentle warning that once again I have become consumed with living and forgot to live – for spending time with God is life and breath to me. It’s wonderful to praise Him for the wonderful things He does, to acknowledge that He always comes through when my back is up against the wall; but more important than any praise or adoration is simply getting quiet and coming into His presence and waiting on Him to speak, or breathe into us new life to our weary soul, or maybe just quietly wrap us in the center of His love.

I am a hopeless romantic – a good love story will grab me every time and take me there to a world of beauty without pain and suffering, even for a moment; but more than anything Hollywood could concoct – is a love story that will still bring goose bumps after two thousand years – it’s the story of a God who loved us so much that He gave the best that He had to pay the price for our sins – He gave His Son – His very life on a rugged Roman tree that we might have the right to the tree of life and be united in fellowship with Him not only one someday in heaven; but right here, right now! And because this God is the essence of love itself, He won’t disappoint you, He won’t cheat on you, He won’t desert you, He’s ever faithful – and all He wants in return is for us – to spend a little time with Him. What a trade!

God Bless You On This Lord’s Day,
maria
