Don’t Give Up! – Fight for Your Little Ones!

One of my favorite people in the Old Testament is Nehemiah. He was a man who loved God and loved his people. He was willing to sacrifice a life of ease to toil side-by-side with his brethren to rebuild the wall at Jerusalem to fortify the city. Most of all, Nehemiah was what I would call a spirit-filled strategist. Beginning his work in prayer, and continuing in prayer, he was sensitive to the leading of the Lord, who spoke to his heart a day-by-day, play-by-play plan to accomplish this task. As much as I love telling this story, there was only one scripture in this book bouncing around in my head today, it was Nehemiah 4: 13-15 (NIV):

So I placed armed guards behind the lowest parts of the wall in the exposed areas. I stationed the people to stand guard by families, armed with swords, spears, and bows.
Then as I looked over the situation, I called together the nobles and the rest of the people and said to them, “Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord, who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes!”
When our enemies heard that we knew of their plans and that God had frustrated them, we all returned to our work on the wall.

And the specific verse that the Lord was speaking to me was in vs. 14 where Nehemiah instructed them not to be afraid of the enemy, but to “remember the Lord, who is great and glorious (that will preach all by itself!); but it goes on to say – “fight for your brothers, your sons, your duaghters, you wives, and your homes!” If we look at the verse preceeding this one (vs 13) we find that Nehemiah had placed them in groups of families around the wall in front their land – what a strategy, as they were working on rebuilding the wall, they were rebuilding it right in front of their own property – Nehemiah knew the heart and man of mind and did not cause them to have to question why they were fighting or what they were working for – they only had to look in front of them to know that this was a personal fight for a personal victory!

We see much of this same situation today – the walls that have protected our children have been torn down and replaced by air waves of pornography and filfth on parade! The Sanballats of this age have said that there is no way thiis wall can be rebuilt – that our children will just have to learn how to deal with the elements of our society – and the sooner the better!

I don’t know about you but I have a “fight” way down in my soul – and it keeps letting me know that though the fight be great – our God is greater – though the battle may be ugly – our God is glorious – though the enemy is surrounding us – God is in us!

Godd Bless You on this Lord’s Day!
Maria
