The Prophet's Reward – Part III
The main character in this story – the Shunammite woman has portrayed a woman of faith and conviction. She received her promise and with faith held to that promise, even when it seemed to be slipping away from her! Scripture does not record the meetings and conversations that this woman had with Elisha on his visits. Needing Gehazi to interpret suggests that they did not speak the same dialect. However, permit me a little license here – for I believe that in his coming and going – this woman observed faith in action and the anointing he walked in was imparted unto her.
Scripture does record how Elisha dealt with her dead son. His dealings were revealing to me of how we should apply some of his actions to our own lives:
“When Elisha came into the house, there was the child, lying dead on his bed. He went in therefore, shut the door behind the two of them, and prayed to the LORD. And he went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands; and he stretched himself out on the child, and the flesh of the child became warm. ”
He returned and walked back and forth in the house, and again went up and stretched himself out on him; then the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
And he called Gehazi and said, “Call this Shunammite woman.” So he called her. And when she came in to him, he said, “Pick up your son.” So she went in, fell at his feet, and bowed to the ground; then she picked up her son and went out. 2 Kings 4: 32-38 (KJV)
Elisha didn’t give up because the child was dead – he put his whole self into believing that this child who was dead, would live again! And even when the child became warm – he didn’t stop praying – (how many times do we stop praying because that prodigal returns home) –no, even after the child became warm, he continued to pray and then he stretched himself out on him again – it was only after the child opened his eyes (this will preach all by itself – we can’t even let up praying until the child opens their eyes) – it was only after the child could see for himself that Elisha called for the Mother to pick up her son!
God loves you and loves your children far more than you ever can – He wants to be their teacher – He wants them to have the life He created for them –
What if you haven’t been like the Shunammite woman – what if you didn’t appropriate the principles that she did as you raised your children , or as you watched extended members of your family wander away from the faith – well I’ve got good news for you – the God I serve is a nevertheless God –
The day you Hear His Voice – the Day you Open Your Eyes – the Day you Take God at His Word – this is the day salvation and life come to your house – and no matter what it looks like now, remember, “IT IS WELL!”
God Bless You.
Maria
