Listen for the Message in God’s Silence

April 16, 2009 by

Very few of us can withstand complete silence, especially when we feel as if someone ought to be talking! We squirm, we turn, and very often we attempt some kind of conversation filler to stop the deadening sound of silence! It’s not any better when the person who is silent is our invisible God. In fact it’s probably even worse. Just because we can’t see God, doesn’t mean we don’t know that He is there – and when He is not! The presence of God is such a strong force that we immediately know when there is distance between us. And even though few of us are privileged to hear the audible voice of God, we definitely know when He speaks – and when He doesn’t! Even though too many of us take for granted the protective and comforting presence of God – when He is silent – we immediately know something is wrong and we began to get signals that confuse us.

God uses His silence to talk to us. When He is silent, we must also be silent – we must get in that place of solitude and wait on hearing what God has to say. There are times when God giving us the direction we so desperately are seeking for will not work for us because our understanding has not caught up with that direction. So we must “labor” to enter into that rest that allows us to trust God’s unfailing love to lead us into pathways of blessing.

“When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.” Revelations 8:1

One of the most incredible times for mankind will come when the seventh seal is opened – what is interesting is what happens after that silence –

“And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets.
Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne.” Revelation 8:2-3 (NIV)

The Apostle John after witnessing this silence from God saw seven angels standing before God and they were given seven trumpets – and another angel came to give incense which were the prayers of the saints!

God is never at a loss for a plan! Even in His silence – if we can just wait He has a celebration in mind! He will release angels to work in our behalf on the prayers that we have prayed! Be encouraged this day – God has not forsaken you – He hears, He knows, He is even speaking in His silence – Listen to the Sound of Heaven!

God Bless You,
Maria
