We Have the Mind of Christ

“For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him? but we have the mind of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2: 19 (KJV)
I started off this week’s lessons by talking about judgement. Having a judgmental spirit can be devastating for many reasons. First of all it can handicap the growth and sometimes even the presence of newborn babes in your midst – people have a hard time developing properly when they feel they are under scrutiny.

But there is a far better reason (at least for me):

“Judge not, that ye be not judged.
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?” Matthew7:1-3KJV

“Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.” Galatians 6:1-3 (NLT)

These are two scrioptures I paid for – and not just with one check – they were costlly lessons indeed!

Yet, when we come to the end of 1 Corinthians the second chapter we find an interesting passage:

“The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment:
“For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2: 14-16

Paul in his letter identifies the marvelous way the Holy Spirit becomes our tutor and our guide. And then here it comes vs 15:

“But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.”

OK – that is KJV – maybe it’s too tight – let’s look at the NIV again:

“The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment:”

Here again is a mystery – for scripture admonishes us not to judge on the one hand, and then tells us, if we are spiritual we will judge all things, and then not be rightly judged by anyone! And ends with asking who can tell God what to do , and finally a statement -
“But we have the mind of Christ.”

I don’t know whether you are ready for this – and I’m not saying I have all the answers, but I know I’ve been tested on this one too! Have you? Reflect on this piece – send in your comments – and we’ll finish up on this topic tomorrow.

God Bless You,
