When All is Said and Done – It's Still Love!

The new year is in full swing, and I am sure that you like me, are watching “time fly!” We are already into the second month of 2009 – only eleven more to go! When said like that it makes it seem that what we have left we have to count as valuable.

And it is true! Time is a valuable commodity – even though it is distributed equally to everyone on earth – we all have 24, 60 minute hours each day – we all do not see time the same way, and certainly do not all make use of it the same.

It is the same with love – we all have a consciousness of love – for God is love and we are made in His image and His likeness. We are made to love and to be loved. The sad reality is that satan desires to take the pure love that flows from God and twist it and counterfeit it by deviant means, thereby filling the hearts and minds of millions of people with the thought that real love does not exist.

This month is set aside to honor love – and we in the United States celebrate the wonder of love with Valentine’s Day. There are numerous stories associated with both the origin and the growth of the celebration of Valentine’s Day – too many to review in this venue. However, there are stories that come straight from God’s word that speak to me of His love and His approval for us loving one another that are very appropriate and this week we are going to take a look at love – love as God designed it – For before there were any of the Saint Valentine’s or the poetry of Chaucer – or the warm, fuzzy feeling that a Hallmark card gives – there was God –

In fact we can go way back to the beginning – to the first chapter of Genesis and find…

26-28 God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them
reflecting our nature
So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea,
the birds in the air, the cattle,
And, yes, Earth itself,
and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.”
God created human beings;
he created them godlike,
Reflecting God’s nature.
He created them male and female.
God blessed them:
“Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge!
Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air,
for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth.”

29-30 Then God said, “I’ve given you
every sort of seed-bearing plant on Earth
And every kind of fruit-bearing tree,
given them to you for food.
To all animals and all birds,
everything that moves and breathes,
I give whatever grows out of the ground for food.”
And there it was. Gen 1:26-30 MSG

As ii read it, God spoke, God created, God blessed, God gave –
This is what is said, this is what was done,
Where is love in it?
