What’s Love Got to Do With It? Part II

February 4, 2009 by

3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—
the moon and the stars you set in place—
4 what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?
5 Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honor. Psalm 8: 3-5 NLT

I love this passage of scripture – when I am low I often quote it to myself – or when I’m too high – I quote the same passage. For in it is both amazement and humility – that the God whose fingers placed the moon the stars in place also made and cares for us, and then also esteemed us with so much honor that we are in a position just a little lower than the angelic beings that live in the heaven-lies.

Psalm 107: 1& 2 (NLT) says:

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
His faithful love endures forever.
2 Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out!
Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies.

The next forty verses give example after example of how many ways God showed His love for His people. And the Psalm ends by saying:

43 Those who are wise will take all this to heart;
they will see in our history the faithful love of the Lord.

There’s an e-mail circulating around that tells the story of an atheist who appealed to a Judge to proclaim a day set aside for them to celebrate, as various religions have. to make the short story, shorter, the judge ruled that such a day does exist, April Fools Day! – for:

Psalm 14:1
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. (KJV)

The point I want to make is that whether we are in Psalm 107 or judging those who fit Psalm 14:1 – God loves us both the same – the mystery of God’s love is that “the rain falls on the just and the unjust” – (don’t tell me that you have never wished that God would zap one of your enemies with His Zap gun!) God longs to have all of us to come into this marvelous grace – we are the ones who determine who’s worthy and who isn’t. Too often we who are redeemed – and walk with God forget the love of God and the tremendous grace of God that was bestowed upon us with that redemption.

What is man that GOD is mindful of him?

How can we live cursing God by our words and our actions, living in total rebellion to His Word and His Way – turn against every authority that He places in our life – reject every opportunity to live a Holy life in favor of the pleasures of sin – how can we take upon ourselves to live anyway we want – and then get mad when one thing (that we didn’t even deserve) goes wrong – determining that God is not just?

WHAT IS MAN – that God is mindful of him?

WHO IS THIS GOD OF LOVE – THAT LOVES THE UNLOVABLE?
FORGIVES THE UNFORGIVABLE? CANCELS THE DEBT OF THOSE WHO STOLE? FREES THE CONVICTED? FORGETS THE SIN AS FAR AS THE EAST IS FROM THE WEST AND REMEMBERS IT NO MORE?

WHAT HAS LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT? – IT WILL TAKE AN ETERNITY TO FIGURE THAT ONE OUT.

God Continue to Bless you,
Maria

I love the spiritual fact that the Lord loves the “unlovable.” Oh, that we could reach this level of love.

The April Fools Day comment is so funny and oh so true.
What I love most about knowing Christ is that everyday, knowing that we are the Children of God, we wake up to a holy purpose to fulfill.
