Sowing Into Another Man's Dream!
“I dreamed a dream,” Pharaoh told Joseph. “Nobody can interpret it. But I’ve heard that just by hearing a dream you can interpret it.”
Joseph answered, “Not I, but God. God will set Pharaoh’s mind at ease.”
So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “You’re the man for us. God has given you the inside story—no one is as qualified as you in experience and wisdom. From now on, you’re in charge of my affairs; all my people will report to you. Only as king will I be over you.” Gen. 41: 15-16;39-40 (MSG)
We can go to church and hear a message and then we can go to church and hear THE MESSAGE! Such was the case when I went to a revival at my church at the time, and heard young Dwight Pate preach THE MESSAGE entitled “Sowing into Another Man’s Dream!”
I was at a place in my life when I felt cheated, even betrayed – and was not happy about it. To make a very long story short I had returned to work teaching after being out for fifteen years – I had been already been cut from one school due to being the low woman on the totem pole – and now at another school having gone through the year, was facing the same victimization of being the person with the lowest seniority – which meant I got the worst classes and the worst students. I was teaching at a Hispanic school, my Department Chair was African American and all the other teachers in my department were White except for one other African American teacher and myself. Yes, I pulled the race card – feeling as if my African American Department Chair should have helped a “sister” out instead of giving me all low level Freshmen with a late start program.
I went to church expecting to hear a word from the Lord (isn’t it funny that no matter how bad our attitude we still expect God to bless us when we come to church). Well I did hear a word – and it was a life changing word! For that night I heard the story of Joseph preached as I never had before. The preacher spoke of Joseph and his dreams – but emphasized that Joseph learned a secret – when he figured out that his dreams were on hold- he began to sow into the dreams of those around him – to make them happen!
I’m sure you can tell where this is message went – Potiphar, the jailer, finally Pharoh – each one – Joseph labored with all his might to make sure that their dreams were fulfilled! And jumping to the end of his story – finally Joseph found that in the process, God fulfilled his!
I immediately went back to work, repented to my Department Chair – told her whatever she wanted me to do, I would do… the rest is history – it was not long before God began to move me up the career ladder and redeemed my time – in less than two years, I became an administrator and have been one for over seventeen years now!
In less than three years back on the job God gave me favor and I increased in position over people that had been working for nearly twenty years, and at each juncture I have applied this Joseph principle of Sowing Into Another Man’s Dream, for it was not my dream to “run a school, or a program” , but it was my dream to raise my children to adulthood successfully and God has done just that!
God Bless,
Maria
