He Who the Son Sets Free – Is Free Indeed!
In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened;
he saved me from all my troubles. Psalm 34:6 NLT
My mother-in-law says that things always work out well for me, no matter how they start off. For years my insecurities kept me from appreciating that this statement was in fact true!
A terribly unstable childhood beset with embarrassing family situations made me always want to shrink into the woodwork and not be seen. I had no control over the things that happened in my life, but I knew they were things that did not happen to other people.
The entrance of the television proved me right – the one program that we were able to watch daily – The Mickey Mouse Club – showed happy, smiling children in nice clothes, and nice houses, doing fun things. this convinced me that something was terribly wrong with my life.
As I grew and developed – I went from awkward to developed too-soon, so different from the rest of the lean and gawky girls around me, causing me to want to hide again. I hated the cat calls and lewd remarks made about my physical frame as I walked to and from school.
I could go further in describing the past of my life – but let it suffice to say – that I acquired multiple insecurities and fears. Even after I met my Savior and began to walk out my calling – I lived in a mixed state of pushing forward and pulling back – wanting to please God with obedience, but afraid to be different from everyone else.
Again, even though I desperately cried out to God to answer prayer – I was somewhat embarrassed when He answered so magnificently (now you’re wondering whether I’m even sane) – but my latent insecurities and fear made me wonder first what I did to deserve such answers to prayer and second, would it last? And my greatest fear was would that joy somehow turn to sorrow, as it had so many times in my past?
There was light at the end of the tunnel- and with that victory! It did not come easy, it did not come overnight !
February is the month designated as Negro History Month. The acknowledgment of the struggle of African Americans to become liberated citizens in the United States of America, as great as it is, pales dim to the real redemption experienced by a blood-bought believer who has escaped the chains of bondage and found life and liberty in Jesus!
This week we are going to look at some life-changing, sure ‘nough testimonies of the grace of God in the lives of His people! Be sure and join us as we see, “He who the Son sets free is free indeed!”
Jesus said, “I tell you most solemnly that anyone who chooses a life of sin is trapped in a dead-end life and is, in fact, a slave. A slave is a transient, who can’t come and go at will. The Son, though, has an established position, the run of the house. So if the Son sets you free, you are free through and through. John 8:34 – 36 (MSG)
God bless,
Maria
