“Soaring Above the Clouds!”
“What times I am afraid, i will trust in thee.” Psalm 56:3 KJV
Many years ago I served as a Commissioner for the Illinois Commission on the Status of Women. I was on my way to Springfield for a board meeting. I was sitting on the plane and the pilot let us know that the flight was delayed due to poor weather conditions. Outside the window all I could see was a dark dreary day; above, all I could see was clouds!
Never being one who was excited about flying, it was not the best news I could have received. During this time I had been wrestling with a thought that my time on this earth was short. Being just a little over thirty, with six small children, needless to say, i was engaged in real warfare!
As I sat on the plane praying for the pilot, the air traffic controllers, the flight attendants, the passengers, and of course, myself, I wondered why God had me in this situation in the first place (ever been there?). In the midst of my prayers, the pilot announced they were clear for take-off; looking outside the window, nothing appeared to have changed. Off we went, racing across the runway, up, up up – high into the sky, above the clouds. To my amazement, above the clouds was a perfectly blue sky, a perfectly sunny day!
It was at this point that God breathed a message to me that is as fresh today, as it was then nearly thirty years ago:
“Daughter, I want you to soar above the clouds in your life, where the SON is always shining!”
There is o mistake in the spelling – Jesus, God’s SON, our Lord, our Savior, our Comforter, our Leader, our Protector, our Friend – has a place where He wants us to live – with Him– High above the troubles of this world, high above the deceptive clouds that dim our vision of His will for our life; high above the clouds of our doubts, our fear, our unbelief; high above the storms that come from the accusing tongue of the enemy who tries to keep us bound by his lies; in the secret place of peace and joy that we arrive at when we propel our faith to soar above the clouds where Jesus llives!
