A Proverb A Day January 24, 2009

It is been said that “a proverb a day, keeps the devil away!” Think of some of the truths that you use to guide your life – if you look carefully, you will probably find that they are rooted in words taken from this book.

How many times have we been told to get wisdom – well, Solomon told his son that,
“Wisdom is the principal thing,
Therefore get wisdom
And in all your getting, get understanding.” Proverbs 4: 7 & 8 KJV

How many times have we told our children to listen to what we are saying – that it would save their life – Solomon also told his son:
“Hear my son, and receive my sayings,
And the years of your life will be many
I have taught you in the way of wisdom,
I have led you in the right paths
When you walk, your steps will not be hindered,
And when you run, you will not stumble
Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go,
Keep her, for she is your life.” Proverbs 4: 10-13

The words of Solomon, given by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit are as true today as they were when he put them to pen! If we would follow them. “Wisdom is indeed calling about and raising her voice in the open square,” as it states in Proverbs 1:20.

How simple our life would be if we would follow Proverbs 16;3,
“Commit your works to the Lord
And your thoughts will be established.”

or

Proverbs 16:20
“He who heeds the word wisely will find good,
And whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he!”

We don’t have to look further than the words of the wisest man who ever lived to build our portfolio. He was moved by inspiration of the Holy Spirit to teach us how to survive in any economic climate. If we could only receive the simplicity of God’s plan -

“Through wisdom a house is built,
And by understanding it is established;
By knowledge the rooms are filled
With all precious and plesant riches.” Proverbs 24:4 & 5

And just in case you think that you have to really be super smart to attain wisdom – we are reminded in Proverbs 30:24 – 28:

24-28 There are four small creatures,
wisest of the wise they are—
ants—frail as they are,
get plenty of food in for the winter;
marmots—vulnerable as they are,
manage to arrange for rock-solid homes;
locusts—leaderless insects,
yet they strip the field like an army regiment;
lizards—easy enough to catch,
but they sneak past vigilant palace guards.

Yes, God saw all his creation -and gave each of them the tools needed to not only survive but thrive! And if we would just yield to the directives in His Word we too would have all the wisdom we need to be all that we should be!

In closing consider the words of 1 Corinthians 1:26 -31 NLT:

26 Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. 27 Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 28 God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. 29 As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.
30 God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. 31 Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.”

God Bless You,
Maria
